From Seed to Success: The MIG LTD Story

What began as a vision to elevate Rwandan agriculture has blossomed into a transformative force in the lives of thousands. Founded on March 5, 2004, Multisectorial Investment Group (MIG LTD) emerged from a simple yet powerful belief: that the rich soils of southern Rwanda could produce world-class coffee while simultaneously uplifting the communities who tend them.

Our founders walked the hills of Huye and Nyamagabe, meeting with small-scale coffee farmers who possessed generations of agricultural wisdom but lacked the resources and market connections to thrive. These conversations revealed both tremendous potential and pressing challenges—setting the stage for a company that would bridge this gap.

Our Evolution

 

In our early days, we focused solely on coffee, establishing our first washing station in Nyamagabe District with just 200 partner farmers. The exceptional quality of our initial harvests confirmed what we had always believed: Rwanda’s coffee potential was extraordinary when given the right support.

By 2009, we had expanded to include tea production with the establishment of Mushubi Tea Factory (MTF), creating new opportunities for farmers with land better suited to tea cultivation. The addition of our honey processing facility in 2015 completed our vision of a truly multisectorial approach that could weather market fluctuations while offering farmers diverse income streams.

Today, with four coffee washing stations, a modern tea factory, and a specialized honey processing facility, MIG LTD stands as a testament to what can be achieved when business excellence and community development advance together.

  • Our passion is to build great relationships with farmers, families, and the communities, as we continue to improve their social conditions.
  • Improve the social condition of the farmers by paying medical insurance(mutuelle de sante).
  • Improving the condition of the farms by implementing new practices into the
    production of our coffee.
  • Buying 100% of our coffee directly from the farmers we work together to ensure fair pay.
  • Hold the upmost importance in getting to know our employees and farmers, understanding their needs and desires in the coffee industry.

Our Impact

Behind every cup of MIG coffee, every pot of tea, and every jar of honey are the stories of real transformation:

  • Educational advancement: Over 3,000 children of MIG farmers have been able to complete secondary education through improved family incomes
  • Housing improvements: 65% of our long-term farmer partners have upgraded from traditional to modern housing
  • Financial inclusion: 87% of our farmers now have access to banking services and microloans
  • Women’s empowerment: 48% of leadership positions across our farming cooperatives are held by women
  • Environmental regeneration: 200+ hectares of previously degraded land restored through sustainable farming practices
